Jessica Simpson has been no stranger to the media’s criticism of celebrity weight gains. It hit a high when the media exploded with uncomplimentary articles after an unflattering photo emerged of her in high-waisted pants during a concert. But that wasn’t the first time Jessica faced issues with her body image in the public eye. When she first hit the music scene, she was under constant pressure to be slim like other pop stars, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. Then again, she was splashed all over the internet when she was in her slimmest frame, as she worked out to fit in that skimpy pink bikini and daisy dukes for the Dukes of Hazard movie. But Jessica has fought back, specifically with her own reality series, Price of Beauty (VH1), in which she travels the world and discovers what other cultures find beautiful. It was the purest forms of “take that” to the media any celebrity in the same situation has done. (Others like Tyra Banks and Jennifer Love Hewitt just dropped the pounds in retort.) But the media has latched onto Jessica’s newest diet, a combination of a vegan diet, pu-er tea and cupping, as a way for her to lose what they think of as those few extra pounds she’s been carrying around lately.
