Jessica Simpson sings for First Lady Michelle Obama

They may have a difference of political opinion, but Jessica Simpson and the First Lady Michelle Obama let music unite them last night. The two women smiled and shared a hug as Jessica took to the stage to sing God Bless America at a Rockies versus Mets baseball game held to entertain military families.
The 30-year-old pop singer, who supported George W. Bush's presidential campaign in 2004, was joined onstage by the Democratic First Lady, and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden at Denver's Coors Field before the game.

Jessica is understood to have been hand-picked by President Barack Obama's wife, despite the apparent political divide.

Michelle and Jill also used last night's event to kick off their new Joining Forces initiative, which aspires to help soldiers and their loved ones deal with long separations.

The trio of women all wore trouser, top and jacket combinations for the chilly Colorado evening.

Before the show, Jessica tweeted that she was thrilled to be a part of the procession. It's such an honor to join First Lady Michelle Obama as she kicks off her new initiative in support of our military & their families,' she wrote.
Jessica has attracted controversy in the past for her political stances. The singer who endorsed George W. Bush for president in 2004, was later said to have snubbed him by cancelling an appearance at a 2006 Republican fundraiser in Washington, D.C.

But her manager father Joe Simpson leaped to her defence, saying that even though he and Jessica are 'big supporters' of the president, who had invited them, they felt it was inappropriate to attend a political fundraiser.

Meanwhile, Jessica is fast becoming more well-known for her clothing empire than her musical talents. She has unwittingly become a mega brand in the fashion world with her empire projected to make history this year by becoming the first every celebrity fashion line earn one billion dollars in annual sales.

Her clothing line raked in an astonishing $750 million dollars in sales last year, making it the top selling celebrity clothing empire.
That would put her in the same league as American fashion titans Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein,

Vera Wang and Donna Karan so her presence at fashion week is not unwarranted.

She told New York magazine: 'I never thought I'd be some fashion mogul'. When asked why her brand is so successful, she replied: 'When it comes to other celebrity brands, I think a lot of people do a great job, but it can't be all about them.

'Everybody doesn't want to just look like the celebrity, because they can't. They just want one element of that style.'

She also told the magazine she plans to launch new ready-to-wear and career separates lines. The former reality star is now inspiring other television celebrities like Jersey Shore's Snookie who says she wants to be just like Jessica.

'What I'd like is to turn out like Jessica Simpson', Snookie said. 'She makes millions. I'm trying to build an empire, because after this I can't get a normal job. I mean, how do I go and sit behind a desk?'

Jessica is currently engaged to former NFL football player Eric Johnson. The singer was previously married to Nick Lachey for just under four years with the couple divorcing in 2006.
